Research Team - Festival Support
30 Hours a Week - Wage Rate per Hour: $10.25
Describe work tasks and responsibilities:
- Work in a multidiscipline environment
- Work directly with the Canada South Festival Network Executive Director and Staff
- Work with team on a web-based survey database to measure festival economic impact and tourism impact
- Conduct on-site exit surveys at the more than 27 festivals & events between June and the end of August
- Work the summer information kiosk distributing information & obtaining research data
- Attend festivals to take pictures for the newsletter, website and photo library
- Contact the individual member festival organizations from May to October in a timely fashion to obtain on site contact persons, schedules of events, posters and information for the office and brochure racks in conjunction with the Business Manager
- Work on a survey that would measure upfront festival impact through interviews with festival organizers – set interviews with organizers to obtain necessary research
- Collate all data collected from the on site exit surveys & organizers interviews and enter in database
- Work to provide a copy in report form of the comprehensive statistical data including qualifiers and graphs for the use of all members, Tourism Windsor Essex, Pelee Island, Media, government bodies
- Prepare finding for Summer Newsletter and PowerPoint presentation
- Produce with team weekly activity reports
- Perform other duties in the absence of staff or team member as may be necessary and maintain a clean and safe workplace
Mentoring plan:
Student will work with the coordinator or on-site festival mentor to put into use their learned business practices as they relate to collecting information and supporting events. We will work as a team to look at best practices for the purpose of the task at hand. Collaboration will be used wherever possible. This will be achieved through weekly meetings to co-ordinate the weekly objectives as they relate to the respective festivals and events that week. Participants will produce a weekly log to be placed in the team’s end of summer report.
Level of education/personal attributes preferred:
Post-Secondary (Community College, CEGEP, Technical Institute, University)
- Business related education, Economics, Statistics, Business and Marketing
- Knowledge and skills in the following areas are assets: Knowledge of Microsoft applications, Internet, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop etc; knowledge of working with websites (HTML, JavaScript, ASP) an asset
- Possess acute communications/interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, analytical skills
- Be a self-starter, able to work with minimum supervision
- Able to work as part of our team & with festival volunteers
- Must be organized
- Knowledge of Windsor Essex County and the Festivals and Events
- Some understanding of the not-for-profit and festival business an asset
- Must be able to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends a must
- Must have valid drivers license and provide own transportation to County/City Festival Sites.
